The Law Offices of Ossie Brown was originally formed by Mr. Ossie Brown. Mr. Brown was born in Winfield , LA in 1926 to George and Lovie Brown. He was raised in Baker, LA and graduated from Baker High school . While attending Baker High Mr. Brown was elected to Louisiana Boys State and was subsequently elected to the Presidency of Boys State. Mr. Brown attended Louisiana State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pre-Law. While at LSU Mr. Brown was given the honor of being chosen as The Drum Major for the Golden Band from Tiger Land . At L.S.U. Mr. Brown also lettered in basketball and tennis for the Tigers and he served as President of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
After graduating from L.S.U. Mr. Brown served in World War II as a member of the United States Navy. Upon the completion of his tour of duty, Mr. Brown then received his Law Degree from The L.S.U. Law School. After graduation, Mr. Brown began his practice of law which extended for the next 50years. Mr. Brown grew into prominence as a nationally known criminal defense attorney. Brown's list of list former high profile clients is extensive and he became known as the defense attorney who could win the cases that couldn't be won. Brown's most memorable victory was in the 1970 My Lai Massacre Trial held in Fort Hood , Texas . Army Lt. and Platoon Leader, William Calley and his platoon members were tried for war crimes allegedly committed against the Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. Brown defended a young army sergeant by the name of David Mitchell. Lt. Calley, who was represented by famous attorney F. Lee Bailey, was found guilty of murder as charged but Brown's client, Cpl. Mitchell was the only defendant acquitted of all charges in the incident.
Mr. Brown also had an extensive history of public service while serving in political office. He served as Baton Rouge City Court Judge and after many years of criminal defense work he was elected by the people of East Baton Rouge Parish to serve as The District Attorney for the Parish and it's Capital city.Brown served as District Attorney from 1972 through 1984.
While D.A. Brown was a member of the National District Attorney's Association. He served on various committees within the Association including acting as Chairperson of the first Child Abuse Committee of the National Association. Brown was ultimately elected to the Presidency of the prestigious Association in 1981. While District Attorney Brown was also instrized in East Baton Rouge Parish. He also served on the Executive Council of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement. Bumental in the creation of The I Care Program which is a local program drug prevention program for young people in East Baton Rouge that continues today. Because of his efforts Brown was chosen to serve as the Chairperson for the initial I Care Week recogrown's commitment to our local community is further shown by his past service as a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and The Executive Committee of the Boy Scouts of America Istrouma Council. He was also actively involved in the Muscular Dystrophy Association and served as the Host for the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon for many years. He also served in the past as the Host of the Lions Club Crippled Children's Telethon. Brown and his family have been active members of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church since 1964.
After leaving the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office in 1984, Brown focused his efforts in private practice at The Law Offices of Ossie Brown where he focused on personal injury, wrongful death and criminal defense litigation. Brown retired from the active practice of law in 2000 and since that time The Law Offices of Ossie Brown has continued it's growth and development under the direction of Brown's son, Dana.
