Small Vehicle, Big Injuries

Because of their size, motorcycles can be difficult for other drivers to see when on the highway — if another driver looks away for a second, disaster can strike. Left-hand crashes are another common problem when another driver turns into a rider's path. The injuries can be catastrophic.

Our team of experienced attorneys and support staff will investigate every detail of your accident. When necessary we consult accident reconstructionists and other experts. Our lawyers will handle all the issues with the insurance companies so you can put your energy into healing.

Less Protection, More Injuries

Riding a motorcycle is one way to really enjoy our beautiful weather in the Baton Rouge area. But while on a motorcycle or motorbike, there is no metal cage to offer protection in a crash — you are at the mercy of the road. Because of this, injuries are more frequent and severe in motorcycle accidents. They include:

  • Severe brain damage, including traumatic brain injuries that can be debilitating
  • Broken bones and severed or crushed limbs that may lead to amputation
  • Neck and back injuries, including spinal cord injuries
  • Road rash or burns

Many of these injuries result in scarring and may prevent you from working on a temporary or permanent basis. Unfortunately, fatalities are all too common in motorcycle accidents.

How Can Helmet Use Affect A Claim?

Louisiana has a mandatory helmet law: Anyone under the age of 18 on a motorcycle, whether a driver or a rider, must be wearing a helmet, no matter the speed or distance. Those over the age of 18 can decide whether or not to wear a helmet. But if you choose not to wear a helmet, you must carry at least $10,000 of health insurance.

This law does not prohibit you from obtaining compensation for injuries. However, it is critical that you speak to a team of attorneys well-versed in relevant Louisiana laws.
