College students and DUI

Some college students are of legal drinking age. Others, however, are still under the age of 21.

Even when students know it's against the law to drink, some still go down this path. Simply put, this is a way of life on many college campuses.

If a college student drinks and gets behind the wheel of a vehicle, there is always the chance that he or she will be charged with driving under the influence.

Unfortunately, this can lead to trouble with the law as well as penalties from the school.

Note: Campus police are typically permitted to enforce DUI laws, so don't assume that one of these officers will let you off the hook if they pull over your vehicle.

Once you've been charged with a crime, you can then learn more about your legal rights and defense strategy.

For example, you want to better understand your punishment for a conviction. This could include everything from a license suspension to a fine. Additionally, your school could implement disciplinary action, such as suspension or expulsion.

Here's the good thing: You can put your DUI charge in the past if you take the right steps at the right time. This means knowing your charge, using the right defense strategy, and making sure you don't go down this path again in the future.

If you've been charged with driving under the influence as a college student, you shouldn't hesitate to consult with a legal professional. This will help you better understand what happened and how to ensure that you handle every detail in the appropriate manner.
