Louisiana State Penitentiary corrections officer arrested

According to state corrections officials, a corrections officer at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola was recently arrested after attempting to bring cellphones, drugs and other types of contraband into the facility.

Investigators reportedly found the following contraband in the woman's car:

-- $511 in cash

-- Phone chargers

-- Rolling papers

-- Tobacco

-- Cellphones

-- Tylenol

-- Methamphetamine

-- Xanax

-- Synthetic marijuana

-- Marijuana

-- Ecstasy pills

As a result of the investigation, the corrections officer was booked on two counts of possession of Schedule 1 narcotics, one count of possession of Schedule 4 narcotics, malfeasance in office and for the introduction of contraband into a penal institution.

While the incident is still being investigated, it is believed that arrests of some inmates will occur at some point in the future.

State corrections officials noted that the woman had worked at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola since August of 2016. However, after her arrest, they say that she voluntarily resigned from her position at the prison.

When people are charged with so many serious crimes, it can be difficult for them to understand their legal rights and what the future will bring in regard to their case.

It's important for anyone who is in this situation to review what happened, such as why they were charged, while also focusing on the steps they can take to avoid the most serious punishment. With the right defense strategy in place, anyone charged with a crime can feel better about their ability to avoid the most advanced punishment, including prison time.
