Don’t make these costly car insurance claim mistakes

If you are part of a car accident, there will come a time in the near future when you find yourself communicating with at least one car insurance company (and possibly several).

You are not required by law to speak with your car insurance company, such as to answer their questions about the accident.

Here are some of the many car insurance claim mistakes that you need to avoid at all costs:

  • Don't provide a written or recorded statement as this could be used against you at some point in the future
  • Don't accept the first offer from an insurance company, as they often low ball accident victims in an attempt to make them go away as quickly as possible
  • Don't sign anything until you fully review the document and understand exactly what it means
  • Don't accept a check for "final payment" unless you really want this to be the last payment you receive
  • Don't delay in learning more about your legal rights and making a claim
  • Don't forget to review your insurance policy, as this will help you better understand the contract that you have in place

It can be a challenge to avoid some of these car insurance claim mistakes, but when you know your rights it's much easier to move forward in the appropriate manner.

It's easy to believe that your insurance company will work to make things right, but this isn't typically the case. Even if you have a good relationship with your insurance agent, you shouldn't expect this person to take care of you. They will always do whatever is in the best interest of their agency.

By avoiding these costly insurance claim mistakes after a motor vehicle accident, you put yourself in position to receive the compensation you deserve for your injuries and other damages.
