Qualities to look for in an inexperienced truck driver

Trucking companies often have no choice but to hire inexperienced drivers. While it may not be the ideal situation, they know they need to fill open positions as quickly as possible.

When hiring an inexperienced truck driver, such as someone with less than two years of commercial truck driving experience, trucking companies should look for qualities including but not limited to:

  • Employment history, with an eye toward experience in a related industry
  • Driving history, with a clean motor vehicle record a sign that the person is a good choice
  • Whether or not the person has graduated from a professional trucking school
  • Whether or not the person meets Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulatory guidelines

These are some of the many qualities that make it easier to hire an inexperienced truck driver. While everyone has to start somewhere, it's never a good idea for a trucking company to hire somebody who doesn't have what it takes to drive in a safe manner.

Because there are so many inexperienced truck drivers on the road, it's important for passenger vehicle drivers to be more careful than ever before. You must take extra caution any time you are driving in close proximity to a commercial truck.

If you are involved in a truck accident, there's always the chance that you could suffer a serious injury. This is why you should receive immediate medical attention. By doing so, you'll soon understand what the future will bring in regard to your health. You also should learn about your legal rights to compensation that will help cover medical bills and other expenses.
